Senryu

The last time I checked, a tweet I wrote had zero hearts for months but now it has one. I wrote about this in the past. Hearts on Twitter means nothing. It’s the editor who decides in one of the most difficult haiku/senryu journals to get into.

Senryu

It was a tough time during this submission period after missing the last due to Rachel Sutcliffe’s death, where I quit writing haiku for 4 months, losing my Facebook account but I got one senryu in.

Long ago I was given wings to fly alone but sometimes I return to where it all started for advice or in this case an opinion and out of three this was chosen:

“Coma”

Where I live now, I dreamt of in my sleep in exact detail from the lights to the sound, the air I taste and the feel of my surroundings as it continues to unfold from more than a decade ago. This tells me that the past, present and future already was which is enough time for over two billion years of repetition in my logical thinking.

to feel this moment again
in sway with the trees
and to see things as they are
on this homemade swing

*Note, tankaku is an experimental hybrid of a tanka poem paired with a haiku. It is known that waka/tanka is the much older form of Japanese poetry that gave birth to hokku/haiku. Long story short, while writing a tanka, a haiku about it was on my mind and I put it below the tanka so it would not be forgotten. The two to me seemed to pair well which led to the creation of tankaku.
